twangfest thank you!
by the team on July 14, 2009
Despite the weather over 600 people attended the 2009 TWANGFEST event in Whitchurch on 11 July.
Two live music stages ran back to back. The outstanding act on the main stage were Exeter based Le Chat Noir - a 2 piece with incredible stage presence.
Local bands Transcend, The Have It Your Ways, The Fortunate and Guns of Pig Alley all drew rave reviews.
The Metal session saw Arkane, Ruins of Earth and Mercy Giver thrash through their sets to an enthusiastic audience.
Outside people danced in the rain at the Open Mic - Travis being a popular request here!
A special bonus to revelers was an appearance by local legend Carl Barat who mingled freely with the crowd.
Organiser Martyn Page said 'this was the best yet in terms of numbers and quality of performance' and was hoping to be able to announce a nice sum to benefit local charities.
The event concluded with Bob Marley tribute act Legend and a massive sing along. Roll on next year!
Rain they say?
by Nick on July 9, 2009
Saturday 11th is nearly upon us and the organising team behind TWANGFEST are more excited than a very excitable thing getting over-excited!
The weather forecasters might try and rain on their parade, but the Team are unrepentant.
Martyn Page said, "Each of the last 2 years have been bathed in glorious sunshine, and we've booked the same for TWANGFEST 2009.
However, if the sun plays hard to get, it makes very little difference as the two main stages are both indoors, you don't even need your wellies. So, even if it does pour down you'll still get your hit of top quality musical action - ROCK ON!!!"
not long now!

Final arrangements are now in place for the 2009 Twangfest event on 11 July at the Testbourne Community Centre, Whitchurch.
Eighteen acts are confirmed including this year's headline the fantastic Bob Marley tribute 'Legend' - worth the entrance fee on their own!
There are 2 live stages, a dance tent, tea tent and the ever popular 'open-mic' spot.
Most music tastes are catered for with Indie, Rock and Metal all well represented and once again all profits will benefit local charities.
Local wannabes The Plastix are set to open on Stage left while Basingstoke band The Veygers take on Stage right.
Gates open at 11:30 for a mid-day start. With licensed bars, BBQ and children's play area it promises to be a great day.
Tickets are available at the gate and cost £10 adult, U18s £5, U11s free. A 2 adult + 2 teen family ticket is £25.
You can also pre-register tickets under the 'get tickets' section of this site.

Last but not least, Transcend are added to stage left completing the TWANGFEST lineup!
Formed in 2007 and based in Andover Hampshire, Transcend are a four piece alternative / funk / rock band who are trying to give you something a little different.
Great Sponsors!
by Nick on May 27, 2009
TWANGFEST are pleased to announce they have secured promotions with Bank's Legends (Barbadian) Beer and Brothers Pear Cider (of Glastonbury fame).
Both suppliers have agreed to sponsor the band area and the products will be available for sale at the Festival bars.
Organisers are delighted to have both on board.
Legends support Legend is the new mantra and we are looking to build on the West Indian feel of the event.
Any ideas welcome!

Let's all do the cabinet shuffle!
With a love of great British pop as well as the harder side of rock, this south of England group have spent their time honing their live skills into a thoughtful, tight, energetic and slightly whimsical set including original tunes such as ‘Nancy Boy’ and ‘I Tell Lies’ which were allegedly written when the band were helping to guide the crew of Apollo13 through their re-entry procedure.
